Where to Stay in Austin: 5 Neighborhoods and a Hotel for Each
Pick the neighborhood first and the hotel second. Downtown puts you within walking distance of Rainey Street and the Capitol; South Congress is the postcard; Zilker gets you to the springs on foot; the Domain is the practical pick for a car and the suburbs; the lake is for a resort weekend. One checked hotel for each, all linked to their own booking pages.
Downtown. The 1886 landmark on Sixth Street, a block from Congress Avenue, with the Driskill Bar for a nightcap and the Capitol, Rainey Street and the bats all walkable.
South Congress. Bunkhouse's low-slung motor court turned boutique hotel, with a courtyard bar locals actually drink at and the whole SoCo strip outside the gate.
Zilker & Barton Springs. A former union hall a few blocks from Barton Springs Pool and Zilker Park, with a pool of its own and Carpenters Hall for breakfast.
The Domain. The pick if you're driving, seeing family in the suburbs or flying in late: shops and restaurants at the door, Q2 Stadium and the Round Rock and Cedar Park suburbs a short drive.
The lake. An all-inclusive spa resort on Lake Austin for the weekend you don't plan to leave the property, twenty minutes from downtown by car.
How we checked: Details were checked against each place's own site on Sept 24, 2026. Hours and prices change, so confirm before you go. If something's off, tell us and we'll fix it.
